Interview with Medical technology Group

"New discoveries for the life science industry"

Could you summarize your project in just one sentence?

Xpressomics is a gene expression search engine that allows medical researchers to discover new information from already conducted experiments that have an affect on the genes they are currently researching.

What has it meant for the company to be engage in the FIWARE acceleration programme?

We have received great mentoring and guidance that has helped to develop our solution forward in a more efficient manner.

Could you explain how your project has improved working with FIWARE technologies and FINODEX services?

We have been able to use the various FIWARE enablers to expand our technological capability and we have been able to get additional technical resources for our product.

Has Open Data brought real value to your business?

Open Data has been instrumental in our business as information on already conducted scientific experiments provides new insight for conducting research experiments.

Xpressomics is a Google-like search engine for genetic data. Where did the idea come from and what is its added value?

The idea came when one of our team members was conducing his research experiments. He lacked a way to benchmark his hypothesis on already existing data and wanted a solution where he could search for information from already-conducted experiments.

What are your expectations for 2016 and beyond?

The aim next year is to improve the service and expand its capability so that we can offer valuable insight for the user community.

Where do you see your company in five years time?

Having a large positive impact on the research community and providing value to our users through a service that gives them information and insight that they previously did not have in their research experiments.
